3 EASY STEPS to Protect Your Data from the Horrible Effects of BROWNOUTS

If you’re a Windows user (which most of us are!), chances are you’ve already experienced the “Blue Screen of Death” or BSoD.

The example shown could be a simple case of a corrupted system due to improper shutdown of a computer. Computer systems are susceptible to data loss or hardware damage caused by the sudden loss of power. I speak from experience when I say that if a system suddenly loses power while it's in a crucial operating mode, it could spell disaster. Imagine working on a very long report when suddenly power goes out. Unfortunately, the damage of losing your last transaction can be the least of your problems. Many times these blackouts result in an inoperable computer, or even worse: an inoperable computer due to a disk crash. It is at that point that you realize that you lost not only time and money, but also important data. How can you protect yourself?

You should know that there are simple ways to protect your data from these unwanted power outages. Here are some of them:

•    Use a UPS
A UPS is an Uninterruptible Power Supply. It is a battery system that isolates your computer from the main power line and provides it with a constant voltage and current through any power failure. Moreover, the battery has enough charge to allow you to work an additional 10 to 20 minutes, close your documents, and do a proper shutdown.

•    Backup your system and important data regularly
Since all computers are susceptible to damage due to unsteady power source, it is best to store your important data in an external storage for better safe keeping. Creating an updated backup of your system may also come in handy when there is a need to recover your system from a simple crash. There are a few applications that will enable you to set regular schedules for automatic backup.

•    Perform hardware check-ups whenever necessary
In the event your computer shows signs of problems like error messages during boot-up or BSoD, perform a thorough hardware check-up using efficient utility tools available in the market. This will help you diagnose early signs of problems and cure them before they become worse.

We have heard a lot of horror stories from other people regarding the effects of power outages to their computers. It’s time we prevent them from happening to ours.
